Stiff Goldenrod

Oligoneuron rigidum (Solidago rigida)

Stiff goldenrod is the prairie specialist of the goldenrod family. growing naturally on dry prairies, rocky glades, and open barrens where other goldenrods would struggle. The flat-topped yellow flower clusters open in late summer and fall on stiff, upright stems with bold, large basal leaves. The flat-topped flower form is distinctive among goldenrods and particularly attractive to specialist native bees that prefer this architecture over the arching plume types. It stays well-behaved and clumping rather than running aggressively, which makes it easier to integrate into designed borders than common goldenrod. One of the most consistently high-value fall pollinator plants we carry. the densely packed flowers support enormous numbers of insects through the fall migration window.
