Canada serviceberry is the serviceberry for wet feet. It naturally colonizes swamp edges, pond margins, and the wet low spots in yards that stay soggy through spring. Where Allegheny serviceberry thrives on a sunny slope, Canada serviceberry wants the ground that holds water. and it rewards that placement with dense white flower clusters in April and sweet berries in June that birds take faster than you can photograph them. It spreads by suckering over time to form multi-stem colonies, which makes it excellent for naturalizing a wet area or stabilizing a stream bank. The colony habit also means you get more berries per plant grouping than any single-stem tree would produce. Fall color is reliably good. orange, yellow, and red in most years.
