Why we grow it

A lovely, native, spring ephemeral! The flowers open just as the leaves unfurl in early spring, opening in the sun, closing-up at night. Plants go dormant by mid-summer. The common name refers to the red juice in the underground stems used as a dye and insect repellent. Grows up to 10” tall, need humus-rich soil and consistent moisture.
