Creek Sedge

Carex amphibola

Creek Sedge is found naturally along creek margins, in moist woodland understories, and on the edges of alluvial floodplains across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. It's a medium-height, arching sedge with broad, blue-green foliage and a graceful fountain form that works equally well in moist shade gardens and along rain garden margins. The foliage has a distinctly glaucous blue-green color that provides cool contrast to the darker greens of ferns and woodland perennials. Arching, nodding flower spikes in spring add delicate interest at close range. Like many Carex species, it's a solid performer that doesn't demand attention. it simply provides continuous, low-maintenance texture in the right conditions. Plant it along shaded path margins, at the edge of a rain garden, or in drifts beneath deciduous trees where consistent moisture is available. The blue-green foliage provides reliable color through the growing season without any effort on your part.
