Eastern Wood Sedge

Eastern Wood Sedge is the gentle, adaptable woodland sedge that earns its place in any shaded garden. Soft, bright-green foliage forms loose tufts that spread gradually by stolons, filling in between stepping stones, beneath ferns and hostas, and along shaded borders without ever becoming pushy. The blades are wide enough to give it some presence but not so coarse as to look out of place in a refined woodland garden. It's one of the most adaptable Carex species. handling everything from moist, rich woodland soils to the dry shade under mature oaks, with reasonable deer resistance across the board. Spring flower spikes are delicate and nodding, adding fine botanical interest when viewed close up. Use it to soften path edges, weave between other shade plants, or cover bare ground under trees where nothing else will take hold. It looks especially good alongside Maidenhair Fern and Virginia Bluebells, where the fine sedge texture grounds the composition without competing.
