Wood's Sedge

Wood's Sedge is a quietly beautiful woodland ground layer plant. low, fine-textured tufts of soft green foliage that spread gradually to form a loose, naturalistic carpet under trees. It doesn't announce itself with showy flowers or dramatic seedheads; it does something more useful, which is fill shaded ground with a soft, living texture that requires almost nothing from you. It's a good choice for those awkward shaded spots where lawn won't grow and mulch just looks like mulch. Under mature oaks, in the dappled light along a woodland path, at the edge of a shady patio. Wood's Sedge fills in gracefully and stays tidy without any edging or irrigation once established. Plant it in drifts of at least five to get the ground-cover effect. It spreads slowly by rhizomes, filling gaps over time without ever becoming aggressive. Caterpillars of several skipper butterflies rely on sedges for larval food.
