Lanceleaf Tickseed is the most free-flowering and fastest-establishing of the native coreopsis species. The bold, bright yellow flowers with notched petals bloom heavily from May through July and continue sporadically all season with deadheading. It spreads quickly by both rhizomes and self-seeding. which is great news for anyone trying to fill a sunny, dry border quickly or establish a naturalized area without much work. The flowers are large for a native coreopsis, carried on long stems that make them excellent for cutting. Birds and bees find it readily. It can become aggressive in ideal conditions, so site it where spread is welcome or divide it annually to keep it contained. In a wildflower meadow or a difficult dry slope, its exuberance is exactly what you want.
