Heat-tolerant southeastern native coreopsis that blooms continuously through summer without deadheading.
Star tickseed is one of the more heat-tolerant, long-blooming Coreopsis species native to the Southeast. The golden yellow flowers have toothed, star-cut ray petals that give them a slightly jagged, energetic silhouette compared to the smoother rays of other coreopsis. They open from midsummer and continue through fall, creating a sustained display without any deadheading required. The leaves are slightly hairy and the whole plant has a soft, fine texture. More tolerant of humidity and summer heat than many Coreopsis species, making it a better choice for the mid-Atlantic and Southeast where common tickseed can struggle in summer. Low, compact, and deer resistant -- a reliable workhorse for sunny, dry-to-average borders.

Care notes for star tickseed.
Full sun in dry to average, well-drained soil. More heat and humidity tolerant than most Coreopsis. Shear back by half after the first heavy flush to encourage a second round of blooms. Self-seeds lightly. Division every three to four years maintains vigor.
