Why we grow it

Longest bloom season of any compact native perennial. golden yellow from June until frost with minimal care.

'Zagreb' Threadleaf Tickseed is the most garden-ready of all the coreopsis cultivars: compact, self-cleaning, nearly non-stop in bloom from June through September, and completely unfussy about soil. The bright golden-yellow flowers are produced so densely that the fine-textured foliage almost disappears beneath them in peak bloom. At 12 to 18 inches, it stays tidy without staking and works as a front-of-border plant, a container specimen, or a massed groundcover. The threadlike leaves create a delicate texture that contrasts beautifully with bold-leaved plants like coneflower or rudbeckia. The flowers deadhead themselves effectively. You can shear the whole plant back by a third mid-summer for a second flush, but it will bloom reliably without any deadheading at all. This is one of the most care-free native perennials available.
