Flowering Spurge

Euphorbia corollata

Flowering spurge is one of the quiet stars of the dry summer garden. The tiny white flowers are arranged in clusters that float in an airy cloud above slender stems all summer long, giving a baby's breath effect in a much more interesting, ecologically valuable plant. The white-on-green combination is clean and versatile, pairing with almost anything in the border. Fall brings a surprise: the foliage shifts to red and orange before dropping. Like all euphorbias, it contains a milky white sap that is irritating to skin and highly deer-deterrent. The deer resistance is excellent. probably the most reliable deer-proof native perennial for sunny, dry sites. A genuinely overlooked plant that handles poor, dry soil where most of the border fails.
