Heuchera americana 'Dale's Strain'

'Dale's Strain' is the foliage Heuchera. grown for the remarkable silver-marbled, dark-veined leaves rather than the delicate flowers, though native bees and hummingbirds use the airy flower sprays in spring as well. Each leaf is different: some heavily pewtered, some with deep chocolate veining, some with a silvery overlay that catches light differently throughout the day. The foliage is evergreen and looks fresh through even a hard winter. Selected by plantsman Dale Hendricks from a Pennsylvania wild population known for exceptional foliage variation, this strain produces the best leaf patterning in the species. Plant it at the front of a shaded border or in large drifts where the collective foliage effect is maximized. It's both an ecological workhorse and a genuinely beautiful foliage plant in its own right. something the non-native coral bells cultivars try to approximate but rarely equal.
