Coral honeysuckle is the native vine that earns its place on every fence and trellis in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Tubular coral-to-scarlet flowers appear from spring through summer, drawing hummingbirds reliably and offering a long season of color on a structure that most gardeners want covered year-round. The blue-green foliage is attractive even without flowers. Red berries follow the blooms and persist through fall, taken by bluebirds, mockingbirds, and other frugivores. It's semi-evergreen in warmer zones and deciduous in cooler ones. either way, it's one of the cleaner, more refined native vines available, with no invasive tendencies and minimal care requirements.
