Wild Golden Glow

Rudbeckia laciniata

Wild Golden Glow is the rudbeckia that makes people stop and stare. growing four to eight feet tall with deeply cut, deeply lobed leaves and bright yellow flowers with distinctive drooping ray petals and a prominent greenish-yellow central cone, it has the presence of a large native ornamental shrub for the summer garden. The drooping rays give each flower a reflexed, wild look unlike garden rudbeckias, and the tall, branching habit creates a substantial presence at the back of a moist border or along a stream bank. This is a plant for large-scale, wet, or naturalistic situations. It spreads vigorously by rhizome in moist soil and can form imposing colonies over several years. In the right spot. along a rain garden edge, at the back of a large border, or naturalizing along a wet meadow. it's one of the most dramatic summer-blooming natives available. The cut flowers are excellent and long-lasting in arrangements. Goldfinches and other birds work the mature seed heads through fall and winter.
