Grass-leaved Goldenrod

The flat-topped, fine-textured form of goldenrod that works in tight spaces. and one of the most important late-season pollinator plants we carry.

Grass-leaved goldenrod is different from most of its kin: instead of arching plumes, it produces flat-topped clusters of tiny golden flowers at the stem tips that look almost like Queen Anne's lace in yellow. The narrow grass-like leaves give it a fine-textured quality that reads as meadow rather than coarse, and in fall the entire plant becomes a landing pad for migrating monarchs, painted ladies, and dozens of native bee species. It spreads by rhizomes in moist areas to form dense colonies that provide fall color and seed for overwintering birds. It grows naturally along roadsides, stream banks, and wet meadow edges, a versatile plant for wet spots where fall color and pollinator value are priorities.
