Solidago racemosa
Stickly goldenrod is a compact, shade-tolerant goldenrod that fills the woodland edge and part-shade garden niche where other goldenrods won't perform. It grows in rocky, moist woodland soils in its native range. a different habitat than the open-meadow goldenrods that tend to dominate native plant discussions. and brings the same critical fall nectar and pollen value to shadier, more confined garden situations. The raceme-style flower arrangement (flowers along one side of the stem, hence 'racemosa') gives it a slightly different texture from plume-type goldenrods, and the compact size makes it easier to integrate into smaller borders and naturalized areas under trees.
