Seaside goldenrod is the goldenrod for tough coastal and exposed sites: it grows naturally on dunes, salt marshes, and rocky coastal headlands where it handles salt spray, wind, and dry sandy soil that would defeat most plants. The handsome glossy foliage stays evergreen in mild winters, which is unusual for a goldenrod. The tall flower plumes in fall are among the most graceful of any goldenrod, arching gently rather than standing stiffly upright. Inland gardeners prize it for the salt tolerance that translates directly to road salt tolerance, ideal for parking strips, roadsides, and harsh urban conditions. The fall bloom feeds monarchs on migration and provides one of the richest late-season nectar sources in the native plant palette.

Care notes for seaside goldenrod.
Full sun in dry to average, well-drained soil. Excellent salt tolerance makes it ideal for coastal, roadside, and difficult urban sites. Cut back in late fall. Less aggressive than common goldenrod. spreads by rhizomes but stays reasonably contained. No fertilizing in poor soils. too-rich soil causes floppy growth.
