'Golden Fleece' is the goldenrod that changes minds about goldenrod. It tops out at twelve to eighteen inches. a full third the height of most native goldenrods. and spreads into a low, mounding groundcover that is absolutely blanketed with arching sprays of golden yellow flowers from August into October. The flower-to-plant ratio is remarkable: the bloom display is lush and billowing despite the compact size, and the heart-shaped basal leaves give it an attractive presence even before it flowers. This is a front-of-border, pathway-edge, or groundcover goldenrod. Plant it in masses of five or more for the full waving-gold effect in late summer when monarchs and native bees are foraging heavily in preparation for fall. Unlike taller goldenrods, it doesn't need staking and doesn't spread aggressively by rhizome. The arching flower sprays are excellent in late-season bouquets. Deer ignore it entirely.
